Grand Tri Run
The Grand Shaftesbury Run (aka Grand Tri Run) was created in 2011 to provide an unpretentious, fun and challenging cross country course around the beautiful landscape of Shaftesbury Estate in Dorset. Set up by passionate runner and custodian of St.Giles House, Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, 12th Earl of Shaftesbury, the idea was to transmit the best of his experiences of trail running into an event around his home, sharing miles of private trails and woodland in the process.
The event was an instant success with many runners coming back year after year. Over time it evolved and grew to include a triathlon day that made use of the lake in the parkland around St.Giles House and the hilly country lanes around the village of Wimborne St.Giles. The atmosphere has always been very open and friendly and all about sharing experiences with good food and music. What made the event so special was the involvement of the local community many of whom were integral in helping set up the event and volunteering around the course. With their good spirits even the harshest weather conditions did not deter the competitors from crossing the line with a smile.
In 2017 the event will be taking a pause to reflect on what has been a wonderful journey. We are not sure what the future holds, but hope we can see the event return in some shape or form. of course, we would welcome thoughts from you, whether you are landing here for the first time or a returning visitor.
In the meantime, thanks for visiting and for the support. GSR team x
